Dear
The EU (Withdrawal Arrangements) Bill, Second Reading 6 December, 9.30 am
I am writing to you as my Member of Parliament to ask you to attend the Second Reading debate of
the EU (Withdrawal Arrangements) Bill and to speak and vote in favour of it. This is vital for the
maintenance of functioning democracy for UK citizens, who are being stripped of their democratic
rights.
The Bill is the first item of business on Friday 6 th December, and it is anticipated that the debate will
run from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm.
This is a matter for the whole United Kingdom and not just Northern Ireland and one that I, as your
constituent, care deeply about.
The NI Protocol/Windsor Framework not only humiliates Northern Ireland but also the United
Kingdom as a whole. Through it the EU divides our country into two with an international custom
and SPS border. This in turn effectively makes part of the UK into an EU colony. This disenfranchises
1.9 million UK citizens in Northern Ireland. They can no longer stand for election to make the laws to
which they are subject across 300 areas of law.
The Windsor Framework and so-called Safeguarding the Union deal simply repackage the same
injustice, with some changes round the edges. Worse, they do so for no good reason because there
is another way of protecting the integrity of the EU Single Market and the UK Single Market. A way
which doesn’t involve dividing our country into two and disenfranchising 1.9 million UK citizens. That
way is ‘Mutual Enforcement’.
Jim Allister’s EU (Withdrawal Arrangements) Bill provides a means of protecting the integrity of both
Single Markets without having any infrastructure on the UK-ROI land border through Mutual
Enforcement.
Please prioritise attending this debate and speaking and voting in favour.
Your response to this issue will determine how I vote at the next election.
Please could you let me know whether you will be attending.
Yours sincerely,
